Student Success Statement
“Stop worrying about whether you’re going to win or lose
and focus your full attention on what’s happening right this moment.”
--Phil Jackson
(11 World Championships)
I
guess what Mr. Jackson is trying to tell us is that we should not focus on the
trophies or the medals or winning, but pay attention to the game or what is
happening then and there. Do not worry if you will or will not win that gold medallion
or win the championship, just play the cards right and you the awards will come
after. So if you are worrying more about other things and not focusing on what
you are really doing, you probably will not state on task and concentrate enough
to succeed. For example, you are playing a Basketball game for the state
championships; you have a lot on your mind, you are very worried and nervous
about winning. But, once you get on that court, you can’t think about anything else
but playing! Don’t worry about losing, don’t worry about what your teammates
will think of you, don’t worry about making anyone proud, or winning the shiny
trophy. Just pay attention to the game! In a sense this statement is telling us
to focus on the game then winning.
